Coach’s Note

Volleyball Background Indoors

GROWTH

We at VVA are thrilled to get going with the club season next week. Certainly, I feel a greater sense of eagerness to get into the season versus a continuing of school season with this longer break in between. I hope all your daughters are eager to learn and motivated to play hard.

As hopefully you’ve heard our club’s core values, which we use to guide decisions, are: Learning, Competitive, Resilient, and Respect. With teams starting up a couple of things to be aware of:

1. Coaches will be working to develop respect and ask quite a bit of learning! Those will be at the forefront of the beginning of the season. Likely will be more connecting with one another to develop perspective and build relationships. We’ll also be working to instill the team’s systems right away so that teams will be ready to play in their first tournaments.

2. Learning is a value for players. Equally so it is a value for coaches, administration and parents! We’re all in this together at VVA. I wanted to share this podcast that I often share different episodes with our coaches that has a great topic on Sports Parenting. The host of the show – John Mayer, is my college teammate and the current head beach volleyball coach at Loyola Marymount University. There are some phenomenal insights on questions to ask and things to consider to help your daughters become their best. Here is the link to the podcast: Sports Parenting

3. We appreciate your patience and understanding this year as we make this major transition of facilities. This was one of the main goals of our club coming together to provide a high level training space for volleyball players in the Valley. We know it has been a process and we’ve still got a few weeks to go. But we’re almost there!!! For reference we got the heat on the facility and it reached 73 degrees with no one in there today! One of the last delays is the installation of our flooring. I’ve chosen to invest heavily in flooring because I want to do all we can to reduce injuries, increase enjoyment of the game, and that our athletes and families know we are doing all we can do invest directly in them becoming their best. We are installing this Teraflex flooring, which is by far the premier floor for volleyball in the world. All Olympics are played on it, the NCAA Championships, and nearly every top 50 college team including Fresno State plays on it.

Each day we learn a lot more and seem to be getting closer. We are grateful for our partners at Fresno State to host us practicing for the first two weeks and then will hopefully be on the new courts after that training!

Look forward to seeing everyone soon and getting this club season going and in that new facility!

GO VVA!
